Dementia not only devastates lives, but creates enormous cost to the wider economy, an estimated £25 billion a year in the UK alone. Globally, the cost of dementia is over $817bn and expected to rise, though not evenly, with some regions projected to experience a steeper increase.

Global cost of dementia

The global cost of dementia is largely dependent on the international variation in spend on health and social care services. High income countries spend considerably more on dementia care than low income countries.
