Unmanaged high blood pressure (hypertension) in mid-life (45-65) is associated with an increased risk of dementia in later life (over 65). High blood pressure is one of the risk factors with the strongest evidence base linking it to brain health and dementia risk, and 2% of all-cause dementia could be prevented or delayed by managing blood pressure in mid-life.
